About the work:

In Warsaw’s Castle Square, the eye is first drawn to the silhouette of Sigismund’s Column. In the distance, the weathered, understated form of St John’s Cathedral’s roof stands in contrast to the Baroque bell tower of St Martin’s Church. On either side, the houses restored after the war display their colourful façades. Black lines frame each window, roof and cornice with elegant precision. The touches of colour, applied with a light hand, breathe new life into this iconic square, a symbol of resilience. The whole scene offers a subtle balance between the memory of destruction and the beauty of reconstruction, captured in the drawing.
